I finally made it to Newfoundland!

After two nights in a hotel in a shithole of a city called Sydney (no, not NSW but NS), Ray and I managed to get beautiful weather today and had a pretty smooth sail over to Port au Basques, Newfoundland. The ride was about 7.5 hours but it wasn't too bad. I managed to thrash Ray at Gin Rummy a couple of times, which almost made up for the 8-6 beating I got at pool last night. We then spent the rest of the time being slightly irritated by a seven year old boy called Donovan. Nice kid, but glad I don't have to see him all the time! He kept zapping me with the Loser button so I'd lose my games.

We didn't manage to get onto the highway til about 6pm and we spent an unsuccessful hour trying to pick up a ride. Hopefully things will be better in the morning. In the meantime, we're staying in this little town, looking at the already stunning scenery and catching up on emails ...
