Sleep deprived ravings (updated 160404)

I've just been up all night AGAIN. I didn't even go out last night. Just hung out playing pool until about 1, decided to watch Kill Bill Vol. 1 with Diego, chatted with Deirdre, tried to nap on the couch, saw everyone come home from the pub, watched Kill Bill (wicked movie, just in time to see the next one this week), played more pool, talked to Diego, had coffee & breakfast, did my laundry (including a stupid episode where I was taking my clean laundry out of the machine & spilled the rest of the cup of detergent all through it and had to wash it again), got ready for work, drank the biggest white chocolate berry coffee I could find at the 7Eleven (and now my tongue feels all furry) and am preparing myself to pass out at some point today.

Can’t you tell I’m sleep deprived and jumped up on caffeine? The whole last paragraph was one sentence. I’ve had about 3 pints of coffee so far this morning (that’s not even exaggerating).

So I was probably rambling about Foxfest. Doors opened at 4 and it went on til about 11. When Michelle and I got there, there was a massive line going all the way down to the water and around the shoreline. Conveniently, the line started moving and we just turned around and joined it a few hundred people from the back end. We figured there were only 12 year olds there anyway and they’d be pretty easy to shut down if they had any objections. [I can barely keep my eyes open looking at this stupid screen doing this stupid database management] So we didn’t have to wait too long to get in. When I got in, there were girls in skimpy outfits signing people up for a competition to win a blue Fender guitar signed by the Offspring. So I entered, of course. They still haven’t called me to tell me when to pick it up. But the girl who was holding the forms was like “Are you 19?” (age restrictions). So I said yes, and then I said “Well actually, I’m not,” so she went to take away the form, but I assured her I was older than that. So then she puts her hand on my arm and tells me that I look great. Like 23 is over the hill? I don’t know. But apparently I look like I could be younger than 19??

Which reminds me, how come every time I sleep in for work, wake up at 8.15 and still make it by 8.30 with no makeup and looking like crud, do people always tell me that I look really cute and my hair looks great? I had about 20 people yesterday at work and at the hostel tell me I looked hot. Not that I’m really complaining, but why then would I put in any effort, when obviously I look so good au naturale? Actually, I’m pretty sure it was just the cute outfit with the skirt and heels. I think people are just shocked that I actually have legs.

Whoops, pardon the tangent. So Michelle and I realised several more things on Saturday:

1) There are no cute skater boys in Vancouver. Not even underage ones.

2) Fox radio can’t organise a music festival. The bands were fine (a few unsigned local bands, an American band I didn’t catch the name of, The Trews, Billy Talent, Bif Naked (all Canadian for those who have never heard of them) and of course, the Offspring), but the sound system was crap, there were no random stalls, the beer wasn’t extortionately priced (what were they thinking?), there were no wristbands for the drinking area (hence you had to have ID checked every time you went in, and the security guys couldn’t even find my birthdate on my driver’s licence (Well let’s see, I wasn’t born in 2000 or 2006, so it must therefore be … ?)) and they had 12 portaloos for over 5000 people. Retarded.

3) Ruched combat trousers are apparently acceptable in this country.

Anyway the Offspring were wicked (the rest of the bands were pretty good too, especially considering the sound was sorta shitty). I wasn't sure if Dexter was going to make it all the way through the set - he was a little short of breath in the second song, but he did okay. Noodles was awesome though, who knew 50 year olds could jump around so much? I don't really know the last two albums but there were only about 5 songs I didn't know. Luckily they know that Smash was their best album and they played all the classics.

Comment of the day: Said by the vocalist from Everything After (unsigned local band) - "This is a rock show, so we're gonna ROCK!" One of the highlights of the day!

Oh and if anyone was wondering about Vancouver Idol (I bet you all were) - my friend Amy won the popular vote (by about 30 votes) - i.e. she dragged along the most people. Metal Dave didn't win, although his performances were brilliant. The girl from Manitoba that did Sweet Child of Mine and Heartbreaker (Bonnie Raitt, not Mariah Carey) won fair and square. My only problem with her was that she decided to wear a short skirt with flat sandals. I suppose not everyone can have talent andtaste (or common sense, however you look at it).
