Score a snowboarder

As usual if I haven’t written anything in a while, it either means I’ve been very boring or there’s been way too much going on. This time it’s the latter, and I’ve been getting very little sleep but having a lot of fun doing other things (asides from work).

I have been data entrying my ass off the last few weeks and it's finally calmed down. My company has an absolutely useless database system which they are thankfully going to change by the end of next month (I can't believe it's the end of March already). But as it stands, I am getting paid crap to do a lot of manual stuff that should be able to be done automatically. Oh well. Good news is that when they change over (if I'm still hanging around, which no doubt I will be), I might be training our real estate agents on how to use it. My boss doesn't want to, so I offered, and she knows I'm good with computers. Best thing is that we have offices in Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa so I might get to fly round the country to do the training! And I'll also hit up my agency for more cash. Yeah.

I went to the Vancouver premiere of Jersey Girl (new Kevin Smith/Ben Affleck/Liv Tyler movie) on Wednesday for free (girl came by with free passes after I got home from work). It was cute enough, and Jennifer Lopez has an aneurysm and dies in the first 10 minutes so it's worth seeing, but maybe not paying for. No sign of Jason Mewes or Kevin Smith, but good cameos by Jason Lee, Matt Damon and Will Smith. Also, Liv Tyler doesn't even play her signature Liv Tyler character for about the first half of the movie (then she turns into a blubbering girl). Anyway, they were doing spot prizes at the beginning and I won a $50 La Vie en Rose voucher (yay new underwear!) and an $85 aromatherapy face and body goop basket. After that I went to the bar for my free drink, so all in all I got about $150 worth of stuff for zilch. I went to bed about 1am before I was forced to pay for something.

I went to see Powderfinger on Saturday night, live at the Commodore Ballroom. It was an absolutely amazing gig (the last stop on their world tour). I've never seen them live before and I'm so glad I have now. They sold out and I had to get my ticket off a guy that managed to get a backstage pass from one of the guys in the support band (I bought their EP for $5 and got a couple of signatures too). Powderfinger are coming back at the end of May so if I'm still here I might just have to go again!

I got my hair cut yesterday afternoon by one of the girls at the hostel (she's a hairdresser from Melbourne). So it only took ten bucks to make me look like a style icon (I had a few inches chopped off and more layers put in the front). We're going to fix up the colour next. I love knowing hairdressers!

I spent the rest of the weekend beating boys at pool (well, I didn't win ALL the games) - I'm getting better. I just want to be able to shark a few people from time to time! I also learned a bunch of strange new Ontario rules, including one where guys have to call shots and girls don't (I had the cute French-Canadian guy from Toronto taking that rule back after I sank three in a row - I'd called them all anyway though, since I'm getting to appreciate Canadian rules).

One of my friends thinks we should announce "Snog a Ski Instructor Week" but I have a feeling that the ski instructors would take far too much advantage of that. We live with three British ski/snowboard instructors (one left last week) who already have dodgy enough reputations (they’re self-confessed slappers, so at least they’ll admit it). However, the idea is still not without its merits! They are very young and energetic after all …
