Heat, fire and minor disfigurement

I had a fantastic weekend – the weather was brilliant and I managed to have an entire 24 hours off in one go!

Friday night I burnt myself again on stupid burger oil though and I think my hand is scarred for life. I hope that I’m not socially rejected after injuring myself two weeks running. Saturday I did 8 and a half hours of work at the hostel, and bought myself a new pair (well new for me, old for someone else) of jeans at the pet charity shop for £3. Score! Also, South Africa beat Australia in the rugby (not that I care), so Aus will be cheering for us when we play the ‘boks next time.

Sunday was my second day off in two months, and it was great. I talked to Lucy in the morning, then went over to Colleen’s and chatted with the girls before Coll and I got on a bus and headed out to Balerno. We found a lovely little park and sat in the sun, had a picnic and a coffee (I’m only off coffee at work, not when it’s the real stuff and I get to really enjoy it). There were a lot of old people, complete with Zimmer frames and wheelchairs, so we concluded that it must be a retirement village. It was very pretty but I’ll probably never go back there again. When we got back into the city, we picked up Ange, got ice cream and went to the secret garden. After a nice evening nap and some dinner, I had a lovely chat with David (I need to learn how to say goodnight and hang up at appropriate times) and then went to spin some fire at Holyrood Park. Luckily I managed to convince Darcy to walk down with me (“You wouldn’t let a poor defenceless girl walk down to the park on her own at midnight, would you?”), as it was very dark and everyone else was through some dodgy bushes by the lake. I hadn’t practised for many a month, but everyone was still well impressed by my fire twirling. The scam continues!

After sitting out in the sun today for my lunch break, I think I’m starting to be a slightly browner shade of white, slowly combating the anti-tan effect that Scotland has on me. Yippee!
